AbstractLaura Mandell Associate Director, NINES; Miami Univ., English '''The Best of Both Worlds: Peer Review through NINES and Social Research with the COLLEX Tool''' One of the key reasons for founding the Networked Infrastructure for Nineteenth-century Electronic Scholarship (http://www.nines.org) – NINES, for short – was to meet the crisis in scholarly publishing, but it has evolved into much more than a peer-reviewing mechanism for digital media. NINES provides a working environment for scholars, and, because it is dynamic, it cannot be captured as an object, a commodity with all that implies. I argue in this essay that NINES and groups like it provide an information architecture countervailing that offered by libraries, and that they will form a crucial component of the cyberinfrastructure of our cultural commons. |
