Monday April 21st

1. Orientation - 9:00am to 10:00am

  • Introductions - Dr. Suzanne Crosta, Dean of Humanities will welcome us to McMaster.
  • Orientation to SHARCNET and HPC - Hugh Couchman
  • Review of goals of the workshop - Geoffrey Rockwell
  • Introductions

2. Invited Speaker and Discussion - 10:30 - 12:30

Dr. Stephen Downie of the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign will discuss the opportunities and challenges of digital humanities and high performance computing. There will be time for discussion and a survey of other issues and projects.

Lunch - 12:30pm - 2:00pm

3. Review and Analysis of the Opportunities and Challenges - 2:00pm - 3:00pm

We will brainstorm the issues and boil them down to issue groups for the next breakout session

4. Breakout Groups - 3:30 - 5:00

  • The breakout groups will develop their issues and outline opportunities, barriers, and next steps
  • The breakout groups will report back to the larger group

Dinner

Tuesday April 22nd

5. Reporting and Summarizing - 9:00am - 10:00am

  • A reporter from each group will summarize the work of the group
  • Discussion of overlap and missing issues
  • Hearing from granting council officers and representatives of other organizations

6. Developing an Agenda for H-HPC and SHARCNET - 10:30am - 12:30pm

  • Development of a humanities agenda for SHARCNET and HPC in general
  • Development of an agenda for the digital humanities and ideas for outreach
  • Discussion of next steps

7. Working lunch with administrators and colleagues - 12:30pm - 2:00pm

  • Lunch
  • Presentation of the Agenda
  • Discussion at tables and after lunch

8. Wrap up and Reporting - 2:30pm - 4:00pm

  • Wrap up
  • Discussion of next steps
  • Assigning tasks to develop a full agenda report
  • Feedback
